Yanmar Marine engine

6LY3-STP

In production 2005–present

Yanmar 6LY3-STP: 440 hp (324 kW) at 3300 rpm, 5.813-litre electronically controlled, turbocharged and intercooled six-cylinder marine diesel.

The 6LY3 is the electronically controlled generation of Yanmar's 5.813-litre (106 x 110 mm) six-cylinder: 24 valves, turbocharger, sea-water-cooled intercooler and wastegate, with Yanmar's electronic governor, CAN-bus display and electronic controls. There are three pleasure ratings: 6LY3-ETP (480 mhp), 6LY3-STP (440 mhp) and 6LY3-UTP (380 mhp), all at 3300 rpm and all 640 kg dry without gear. Yanmar offers them with Kanzaki KMH61A (angle) or KMH61V (V-drive) gears. Commercial 6LY3-STC and 6LY3-UTC ratings also exist and are not covered here.

The 6LY3 was superseded by the common-rail 6LY400 and 6LY440 (6LY-CR), which Yanmar's European site listed from about 2015-2016.

The STP is the middle rating, with the same 440 mhp output as the mechanically injected 6LY2A-STP.
