Yanmar Marine engine
3HM
The Yanmar 3HM is the original three-cylinder HM marine diesel, 1.126 litres and rated 30 hp at 3400 rpm. It was an early-1980s auxiliary for larger sailboats with a KBW10E gear, replaced by the 3HM35.
The 3HM is the long-stroke sibling of the original GM series: three cylinders of 75 x 85 mm (1.126 L) rather than the GM's 72 x 72 mm, with electric starting and a lower rated speed. It is a four-stroke with swirl pre-combustion chamber and direct seawater cooling; a freshwater-cooled 3HMF was also built.
It was supplied with the KBW10E wet multi-disc reverse gear (ratios 2.14 or 2.83:1). It was succeeded by the 3HM35, which enlarged the bore to 80 mm.
