3GM
The Yanmar 3GM is the original three-cylinder GM-series marine diesel, 0.879 litres and rated 22.5 hp at 3600 rpm. It was an early-1980s sailboat auxiliary sold with a KBW10D gear (or, as the 3GMD, a KM3A gear), replaced by the 3GM30.
The 3GM is the three-cylinder engine of Yanmar's first GM series, using the same 72 x 72 mm cylinder as the 1GM and 2GM. It is a vertical four-stroke with swirl pre-combustion chamber and direct seawater cooling; a freshwater-cooled 3GMF was also built.
Yanmar's service manual lists two gear pairings with identical engine data: the 3GM with the KBW10D wet multi-disc reverse gear and the 3GMD with the KM3A mechanical cone-clutch gear. The family was replaced around 1983 by the 3GM30 with a 75 mm bore.
