Yanmar Marine engine

4JHE

In production 1983–1989

Original-generation Yanmar JH diesel: naturally aspirated 1.644 L inline four rated 44 hp at 3600 rpm, used mainly as an auxiliary in 1980s sailboats.

The original JH series was Yanmar's first four-cylinder JH family: a 78 x 86 mm, 1.644 L direct-injection, freshwater-cooled block with a Yanmar YPES in-line injection pump, shared by four ratings (4JHE, 4JH-TE, 4JH-HTE, 4JH-DTE). It was replaced by the larger-bore JH2 series (1.817 L) at the end of the 1980s.

The 4JHE is the naturally aspirated member of the family. Yanmar's service manual lists it with the KBW20 constant-mesh multi-disc gear (2.17, 2.62 or 3.28:1); the operation manual also mentions KM4-A down-angle gears in the family, and 'B' (4JHBE) and 'C' (4JHCE, saildrive) package codes exist in Yanmar manual titles.

Its successor was the 4JH2E.
