Yanmar Marine engine

4LH-STE

In production 1995–1998

Yanmar 4LH-STE: 230 hp (169 kW) at 3300 rpm, 3.455-litre turbocharged four-cylinder marine diesel and the top rating of the original 4LH series, supplied without a marine gear.

The 4LH is Yanmar's 3.455-litre four-cylinder marine diesel (100 x 110 mm bore and stroke) from the late 1980s and 1990s, built in four turbocharged output levels: 4LH-TE, 4LH-HTE, 4LH-DTE and 4LH-STE. It was replaced around 1998-2000 by the 4LHA series, which kept the same bore, stroke and displacement.

The STE was the high-output version, rated 169 kW (230 hp) at 3300 rpm, with a continuous rating of 140 kW (190 hp) at 3100 rpm. Unlike the lower ratings it was supplied without a marine gear, so the boatbuilder chose the gearbox or drive. It appears in older Nordic motorboats in the 230 hp class.

It was followed by the 4LHA-STE at the same 230 hp, which later became the 240 hp 4LHA-STP. Ads often write '4LH-STE' loosely for either generation, so check the engine plate.
