4LV250
The Yanmar 4LV250 is a 250 mhp (184 kW) 2.8-litre four-cylinder common-rail turbo diesel rated at 3800 rpm, sold for inboard shaft, jet and ZT370 sterndrive installations in motorboats, tenders and larger sailing yachts.
The 4LV250 belongs to Yanmar's 4LV series, a family of five ratings (150, 170, 195, 230 and 250 mhp) built on one 2.755-litre four-cylinder block with Denso common-rail injection, turbocharger and intercooler; the 230 and 250 mhp versions are the high-output pair rated at 3800 rpm. Yanmar developed the 4LV from an automotive base engine and put it on sale from 2017 to replace both its 4LH light-duty commercial engines and the BMW-derived 4BY/6BY pleasure-boat diesels in the 110-180 kW class, keeping similar external dimensions to ease repowering.
All ratings share the same dimensions and dry weight, so builders can offer several outputs in one hull. Inboard versions are paired with Kanzaki KMH50A (down-angle) or KMH50V (V-drive) gears or ZF gears (Yanmar publishes ZF45C, ZF68, ZF68A and ZF68IV drawings); the (Z) versions, launched at METSTRADE in November 2018, come with Yanmar's ZT370 counter-rotating twin-propeller sterndrive. Yanmar also lists jet-drive applications.
The engines are electronically controlled through Yanmar's VC10/VC20 vessel control systems (mechanical throttle optional on inboards) with NMEA 2000 and J1939 connectivity, and can be combined with the JC20 shaft-drive joystick or the JC10 sterndrive joystick. Yanmar markets the range for sailing yachts over 50 ft, superyacht tenders, small motorboats and light-duty commercial craft.
