Yanmar Marine engine

6LT640

In production 2020–present

The Yanmar 6LT640 is a 640 mhp (470 kW) 8.7-litre inline six-cylinder common-rail turbo diesel rated at 2530 rpm, Yanmar's largest leisure inboard family, sold with ZF gears for planing motor yachts and fast boats.

The 6LT series (6LT500, 6LT580, 6LT640) was introduced alongside the 6LF at boot Dusseldorf in January 2020 and became available from the third quarter of 2020, taking Yanmar's common-rail marine range to 640 mhp. All three ratings share an 8.710-litre, 117 x 135 mm inline-six with Bosch common-rail injection, turbocharger and intercooler, a 2530 rpm rated speed, a 24 V electrical system and a 1125 kg dry weight without gear.

Like the 6LF, the 6LT is sold as a complete package with ZF angled, parallel or V-drive gearboxes and the VC20/VC30 vessel control system, and can be fitted with the JC20A inboard joystick. Yanmar describes it for planing and semi-planing hulls with inboard propulsion - large superyacht tenders, motor yachts up to about 55 ft and fast boats - and for light-duty commercial craft such as RIBs, rescue and patrol boats; Yanmar also lists jet applications.

The 6LT640 is the top rating and is certified for recreational use only (not EPA Commercial).
