Yanmar Marine engine

4LHA-STE

In production 1998–2002

Yanmar 4LHA-STE: 230 hp (169 kW) at 3300 rpm, 3.455-litre turbocharged four-cylinder marine diesel, the top rating of the first 4LHA generation.

The 4LHA-E ratings (4LHA-HTE, 4LHA-DTE, 4LHA-STE) were the first generation of Yanmar's 4LHA series. They kept the 4LH's 3.455-litre, 100 x 110 mm four-cylinder layout. Yanmar's April 2001 catalogue lists them with heat-exchanger cooling, supplied without a marine gear or, as the -ZE versions, prepared for MerCruiser Bravo sterndrives.

The STE replaced the 4LH-STE at the same 230 hp. Around 2002 it became the 4LHA-STP, listed at 240 hp. Yanmar's 2004 leaflet shows the STP's 240 hp is measured to ISO 3046-1, while at the ISO 8665 condition it is again 169 kW (230 hp), so much of the change is a different rating basis. The sterndrive version was the 4LHA-STZE.
