Volvo Penta Marine engine

D3-200

In production 2009–present

The Volvo Penta D3-200 is a 2.4-litre inline five-cylinder marine diesel rated at 200 hp (147 kW) crankshaft power at 4000 rpm. It was the middle sport rating of the updated D3 range and the first D3 to break 200 hp together with the D3-220.

The D3-200 came in with the 2009 update that lifted the D3 above the first-phase 190 hp ceiling, and it sat between the 170 and the 220 in the 4000 rpm sport block. It is the same aluminium-block, twin-cam, four-valve five-cylinder as the rest of the family, with 1800 bar common-rail injection through piezo-electric injectors and a variable-geometry turbocharger, and it carries the taller flywheel housing shared with the 220. Volvo Penta sold it both as an inboard on a reverse gear - HS45AE or the HS63IVE V-drive - and as an Aquamatic Duoprop sterndrive package on the DPS drive with a 1.95:1 ratio, so propulsion is decided by the pairing, not the engine. It met IMO NOx as well as EU RCD and US EPA Tier 3.
