The D6-435 is the gen-1 D6 wound to its limit — 435 hp from 5.5 litres, or almost 80 hp per litre, which is why it carries both the belt-driven compressor and the freshwater-cooled turbocharger. The supercharger supplies boost from idle and hands over to the turbo as exhaust flow builds, giving the engine petrol-like throttle response in fast planing craft. Volvo Penta's product sheet documents it as an inboard shaft package with the HS80AE, HS80IVE, HS85AE or HS85IVE reverse gear, V-drive available, rated R5 for pleasure and high-speed commercial planing use; dealer material also records IPS600 pod and waterjet installations of the same engine. It was the flagship of the range until the 2021 D6 refresh replaced the whole family.
