D8-IPS600

In production 2018–present

The Volvo Penta D8-IPS600 is the entry rung of the D8-based IPS ladder, a pod-drive package built on a 450 hp rating of the 7.7-litre six-cylinder D8 with twin-entry turbo and supercharger.

The D8-IPS600 pairs a Rating 3 commercial-duty 331 kW (450 hp) tune of Volvo Penta's 7.7-litre in-line six D8 with the IPS forward-facing pod drive. The 600 is claimed inboard-shaft equivalence, not crankshaft power — a point that matters especially here, where the D6-based IPS600 makes 440 hp from a much smaller engine at a much higher rpm. Introduced around 2018 alongside the D8-IPS650 and D8-IPS700, it is offered in twin and triple installations in planing hulls covering roughly 20 to 40 knots.
