Volvo Penta Marine engine

D8-IPS700

In production 2018–present

The Volvo Penta D8-IPS700 is an IPS pod-drive package built on a 550 hp rating of the 7.7-litre six-cylinder D8, sitting one rung below the D8-IPS800.

The D8-IPS700 pairs a 405 kW (550 hp) Rating 4 tune of Volvo Penta's 7.7-litre in-line six D8 — a common-rail diesel with twin-entry turbo and belt-driven supercharger — with the IPS forward-facing pod drive. The 700 denotes claimed conventional inboard-shaft equivalence, not crankshaft power. Introduced around 2018, it fills the gap between the D6 ladder and the 600 hp D8-IPS800, and is installed in twins and triples in planing hulls.
