Grandezza 29 WA Open

In production 2009–2013

The Grandezza 29 WA Open is a 9.54-metre walkaround sports cruiser built by Oy Finn-Marin Ltd in Kokkola, Finland, as the open-topped member of the yard's 29 WA pair. It carries an integrated radar arch instead of a hardtop, so the large cockpit is weather-protected by a canopy rather than a fixed roof. High rails and a deep freeboard suit it to Baltic archipelago use, and the single cabin sleeps four. Volvo Penta sterndrive diesels were the only power offered, from a single D4-300 up to twin D3-220s on DP-S legs. The yard quotes 35.7 knots maximum with the single D6-330.

The 29 WA Open sits in the walkaround half of Grandezza's range: a wide side-deck layout with high rails and substantial freeboard, arranged so the foredeck can be reached safely under way. Where the closed 29 WA carries a hardtop wheelhouse, the Open version substitutes a moulded radar arch integrated into the cockpit sides, leaving the cockpit open to the sky and covered instead by a canopy. The cockpit is large for a 9.5-metre boat and the yard's own literature emphasises how completely it can be enclosed when the weather turns. Below, a single cabin is laid out to sleep four, with a galley in the cabin as well as one in the cockpit, and a sea-water toilet as standard.

Construction is GRP with a Divinycell-cored sandwich hull, the standard Grandezza method of the period, with an integrated swim platform and boarding ladder moulded into the transom. Standard equipment was unusually complete for the class and includes hydraulic steering, automatic trim tabs, a fire-extinguishing system, a Wallas ceramic hob, a 42-litre fridge, a 120-litre water tank and a 42-litre holding tank. Teak on the cockpit, swim platform and side decks was an option rather than standard, as were a diesel heater, a bow thruster and shower.

All engine options are Volvo Penta diesel sterndrives. Single installations run D4-300, D6-330 and D6-370 on the DPH duoprop leg; twin installations are D3-170, D3-200 or D3-220 on DP-S legs. The maximum installed power is therefore 440 hp, from a pair of D3-220s, rather than the 370 hp of the largest single.

One data caveat matters. The 1.20 m draft is the drive-down figure: Grandezza's later fact sheets for the current 30 OC/CA state draft as "0,70/1,20 M", which establishes that the single 1.20 m value printed on the older sheets is the leg-down measurement and roughly 0.70 m is the hull. Production years are not documented by the yard and are taken from third-party databases; treat 2009-2013 as approximate.
