Volvo Penta Marine engine

D3-140

In production 2009–present

The Volvo Penta D3-140 is a 2.4-litre inline five-cylinder marine diesel rated at 140 hp (103 kW) crankshaft power at 4000 rpm. It was the entry sterndrive rating of the updated D3 range and was sold only as an Aquamatic package.

The D3-140 came in with the 2009 update that reorganised the D3's sport ratings from 130/160/190 into 140/170/200/220, and it took the bottom of that block. Unlike its siblings it appears only in Volvo Penta's Aquamatic Duoprop literature, paired with the DPS sterndrive; the contemporary inboard leaflets list 110, 150, 170, 200 and 220 but not the 140, so it looks to have been a sterndrive-only rating. The engine itself is the updated D3: aluminium block and head, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, 1800 bar common-rail injection with piezo-electric injectors, variable-geometry turbocharger, and EVC electronic vessel control with electronic shift and throttle.
