AD41
The Volvo Penta AD41 is the Aquamatic sterndrive version of the 3.6-litre six-cylinder 40-series diesel, a turbocharged and aftercooled 200 hp package sold with the DP Duoprop or SP single-prop drive.
AD41 - originally sold as AQAD41 - is Volvo Penta's 3.6-litre six-cylinder turbo diesel packaged as a complete Aquamatic sterndrive rather than a shaft inboard. Volvo's own 1990 brochure rates it at 147 kW (200 hp) with the DP Duoprop drive as standard and the single-propeller SP drive as an option; later A, B and P revisions carried the same basic rating into the 2000s, by which point the compressor-charged KAD42 and KAD43 sat above it in the range. On the Nordic used market AD41 is the six-cylinder diesel sterndrive of the 1990s cabin-boat generation, and the questions a buyer should ask are about the transom shield, bellows and drive rather than the engine, which is mechanically simple and long-lived.
