Volvo Penta Marine engine

D3-150

In production 2009–present

The Volvo Penta D3-150 is a 2.4-litre inline five-cylinder marine diesel rated at 150 hp (110 kW) crankshaft power at 3000 rpm. It was the upper of the updated D3 range's two low-revving displacement-boat ratings.

The D3-150 arrived with the 2009 update to the D3 range and became the higher of its two 3000 rpm tunes, sitting above the D3-110. Like the 110 it was aimed at displacement and semi-displacement hulls rather than planing craft, which were served by the 4000 rpm 140, 170, 200 and 220. Mechanically it is the updated D3 - aluminium block and head, twin overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, 1800 bar common-rail injection through piezo-electric injectors, variable-geometry turbocharger, EVC-C with electronic shift and throttle and a 180 A alternator - and it was sold as an inboard on a reverse gear, typically the HS45AE or the HS63IVE V-drive, with no Aquamatic sterndrive version.
