D4-180
The Volvo Penta D4-180 is a 3.7-litre inline four-cylinder marine diesel rated at 180 hp (132 kW) crankshaft power at 2800 rpm. It was the entry rating of the first-generation D4 range, sold as an inboard with a Volvo Penta reverse gear.
The D4-180 sat at the bottom of the first-generation D4 range, the common-rail four-cylinder Volvo Penta introduced in the mid-2000s to replace the older KAD/TAMD fours. It shares the family's cast-iron block, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, turbocharger and aftercooler with the higher ratings, but is tuned to a low 2800 rpm rated speed, which made it the displacement-cruiser and semi-displacement rating of the range rather than a planing-boat engine. Unlike the 210, 225, 260 and 300, it was offered only as an inboard with a reverse gear (HS45AE, HS63AE, HS63IVE or ZF63) - no Aquamatic sterndrive version appears in Volvo Penta's parts catalogue. The generation was superseded by the 2021 D4 refresh, in which the D4-175 took this slot.
