D3-190
The Volvo Penta D3-190 is a 2.4-litre inline five-cylinder marine diesel rated at 190 hp (140 kW) crankshaft power at 4000 rpm. Launched in July 2005, it was the top rating of the first-phase D3 range and was superseded by the D3-200 and D3-220.
The D3-190 was added in July 2005 as a new top model above the 130 and 160, and at 190 hp from 2.4 litres it was one of the most specific-output marine diesels of its day - the point Volvo Penta was making with the D3, which was marinised from Volvo Cars' aluminium five-cylinder. It carries the family's aluminium block with integrated bed plate, twin overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder with hydraulic lash adjusters, six-bearing crankshaft, common-rail injection and variable-geometry turbocharger with charge-air cooling, and unlike the lower first-phase ratings it met IMO NOx as well as EU RCD and US EPA Tier 2. It was offered as an Aquamatic Duoprop sterndrive on the DPS drive with a taller 1.95:1 ratio than its siblings, and as an inboard on the HS45A reverse gear. The 2009 update retired it in favour of the D3-200 and D3-220.
