Grandezza 23 OC

In production 2008–present

The Grandezza 23 OC is the hardtop, semi-enclosed variant of Grandezza's smallest hull, built by Finn-Marin Oy in Kokkola, Finland. Roughly 6.96 to 7.00 m long on a 2.59 m beam, it weighs about 1900 kg and carries 190 litres of fuel. The OC designation denotes an Open Cruiser: a fixed hardtop over a saloon that can be opened up to the cockpit, giving weather protection unusual in a boat of this size. It is powered by a single Volvo Penta D3 diesel sterndrive, commonly the 190 hp version, and databases quote a maximum of about 36 knots. Kippari tested the model in its March 2008 issue.

Where the 23 DC is an open day cruiser, the 23 OC takes the same compact Grandezza hull and adds a fixed hardtop and a semi-enclosed saloon. That is the meaning of the OC — Open Cruiser — designation that runs right up through the Grandezza range to the 34 OC: a wheelhouse that can be closed against Nordic weather and then opened out to merge with the cockpit when the sun appears. On a boat under seven metres this is an ambitious packaging exercise, and it gives the 23 OC a very different character from its open sister, trading sunbathing area for all-weather usability and a longer season.

Dimensionally the boat is quoted at 6.96 m by itboat's catalogue and 7.00 m in period brokerage listings, on a beam of 2.59 m. Displacement is around 1900 kg and the fuel tank holds 190 litres — both usefully larger than the 23 DC, reflecting the extra structure of the hardtop. The hull is glassfibre, and accommodation runs to a small forward cabin with a double berth beneath the saloon sole. Databases give a top speed of about 36 knots and a capacity of six persons.

Propulsion follows Grandezza's house rule for boats of this era: an inboard diesel on a sterndrive leg rather than an outboard. Surviving listings in Sweden, Finland and on Lake Constance almost uniformly show the Volvo Penta D3 at 190 hp, which suits the boat's weight well. One German-market listing describes the engine as a D4 of 190 hp, but no Volvo Penta D4 was ever rated at 190 hp and this is near-certainly a typing error for the D3.

Data quality for this model is weaker than for the current range, because Grandezza has removed its discontinued-model pages and no period brochure could be retrieved. Air height, water capacity, toilet count, CE category and the manufacturer's maximum power rating are all unsourced and therefore omitted here rather than estimated from the closely related 23 DC.
