Grandezza 23 DC

In production 2007–present

The Grandezza 23 DC is a compact Finnish day cruiser built by Finn-Marin Oy of Kokkola, the yard that launched the premium Grandezza line alongside its Finnmaster range. It measures 6.90 m by 2.48 m, weighs about 1800 kg and carries 160 litres of fuel, with a CE category C rating for six persons. Power is by a single inboard diesel sterndrive; Kippari magazine tested it with a Volvo Penta D3-190 and recorded 35.4 knots flat out and 24.4 knots at cruise. The cockpit has a U-shaped sofa that converts to a sunbed, and the forward cabin sleeps two with a WC. It was one of the earliest Grandezza models and remained in the range long enough to receive a long-term retest in 2013.

The 23 DC is the smallest of the original Grandezza models, a day cruiser in the classic Nordic idiom but styled with what the Finnish press of the day called a Mediterranean flavour. At 6.90 m overall on a 2.48 m beam it is a genuinely compact boat, and the layout is conventional for the type: a large open cockpit aft with a U-shaped settee that converts into a sunbed, twin adjustable helm and companion seats, and a short foredeck cabin under the closed bow. The cabin sleeps two adults and houses a WC, which in a boat of this length is a meaningful concession to weekend use rather than pure day boating.

Construction is glassfibre-reinforced plastic throughout, and the boat is certified to CE category C for six persons. Dry weight is around 1800 kg and the fuel tank holds 160 litres. The builder quoted an engine range of roughly 160 to 225 hp, which puts the 23 DC firmly in the small-diesel sterndrive class rather than the outboard segment — Grandezza as a brand has consistently avoided outboards on its smaller boats, preferring engines concealed beneath the sundeck for aesthetic reasons.

Kippari's test boat carried a Volvo Penta D3 of 190 hp. That combination returned 35.4 knots maximum at 4150 rpm and 24.4 knots at 3000 rpm, with best economy of 0.81 litres per nautical mile at 2500 rpm and cabin noise in the 79 to 81 dB range through the mid-range. The magazine praised the diesel economy and the compact packaging but was less taken with the space utilisation, finding the styling more decorative than functional, and considered the boat expensive against its direct rivals.

Several figures could not be confirmed from a manufacturer document, because Grandezza has removed its discontinued-model pages and the Internet Archive was unavailable during research. Drive-down draft, air height, water tank capacity and the exact first and last production years are therefore not stated here. The sterndrive unit fitted behind the D3 is also unconfirmed, although a Volvo Penta duoprop would be the conventional pairing for this engine and era.
