Sunseeker Portofino 47
The Sunseeker Portofino 47 is a British GRP sports cruiser from Sunseeker (Poole), launched at the 2006 London Boat Show as the successor to the Portofino 46 and produced through about 2009. It carries the Portofino range's open-cockpit, twin-cabin layout, offered with a choice of conventional shaft drive or IPS pod propulsion.
At 14.95m overall (46.5ft on the hull) with a 4.30m beam and 1.20m maximum draft, the Portofino 47 displaces about 16,400kg at half load. It keeps the Portofino theme of a big-bodied, outdoor-life sports cruiser, offered either as an open cockpit boat or with the sliding hard top later carried over from the larger Portofino 53; a submerging bathing platform doubling as a tender slip was new to the model.
Accommodation is built around a large saloon and galley, with an en suite master stateroom forward and an en suite twin-bed cabin aft. The cockpit combines forward seating next to the helm with a second aft social area with seating, a wet bar and a sunpad. Construction is hand-laid GRP with a balsa-cored hull topside and a stitched multi-axial single-skin bottom, PVC-foam-cored deck and superstructure, and a stainless-steel-fitted deck.
Sunseeker's own sales sheet lists propulsion as "twin fixed-pitch props in tunnels/IPS" with engine options totalling up to 1,150PS (about 1,134hp). The tunnel-drive version was sold with twin Volvo Penta D9-575 diesels (575hp/2 = 1,150PS total), giving a cruise of about 22 knots and a top speed up to 34 knots over a claimed range of 200 nautical miles; Sunseeker's own document does not name an engine for the IPS pod alternative it also lists. Fuel capacity is 1,310 litres and fresh water 340 litres.
The Portofino 47 replaced the Portofino 46 in 2006 and was itself replaced by the Portofino 48 in 2010, giving it roughly a three-year production run. Motor Boat & Yachting produced a yacht-tour video praising its "timeless style", and the model won "Imported Powerboat of the Year" at the 2007 Modern Boating Magazine awards.
