Sunseeker Camarque 44
The Sunseeker Camargue 44 is a British GRP sport cruiser designed by Don Shead, built by Sunseeker (Poole) from 1997 to 2002 as the entry point to the 1990s Camargue range below the 47 and 50. It is a two-cabin, twin-diesel weekender on a deep-V hull with propeller tunnels.
The Camargue 44 (sold under the corrected spelling Camargue 44) is 14.14m overall (13.41m per the loaded database figure) with a 4.11m beam and 1.04m draft, displacing about 13.2 tonnes. Naval architect Don Shead designed the hull, a deep-V shape with propeller tunnels shared across the Camargue range, giving a smooth ride with the trademark Sunseeker spray rails credited to Shead.
The interior has a forward master stateroom and an aft twin-berth cabin, both en suite, for two cabins and two heads in total, with a roomy amidships salon between them finished in high-gloss cherry joinery. On deck the cockpit has a full-size sun lounge, a wet bar, and folding dining seating for eight; a bow thruster, teak cockpit sole and an extended swim platform were standard, and the anchor windlass is tucked inside the rode locker.
Standard power was twin Caterpillar 3126 diesels at about 420hp each (840hp total); a Volvo Penta TAMD74P package rated around 480hp each (roughly 946-960hp total, sources vary slightly) was also offered and is the larger figure behind this model's max_hp. Cruising speed is in the mid-20-knot range with a top speed just over 30 knots; fuel capacity is 1,003 litres.
Launched in 1997 and built until 2002, the Camargue 44 was one of Sunseeker's better sellers of the period, following the larger 47 and 50 into the range. Motor Boat & Yachting's 2006 used-boat review scored it 80%, calling it "a superbly proportioned twin en-suite cabin craft with top-drawer 30-knot performance", while flagging its fuel tanks as small for the boat's size.
