Sunseeker Predator 58

In production 1996–2000

The Sunseeker Predator 58 is a 17.65 m GRP sportscruiser built by Sunseeker International in Poole, England, and sold from 1996 to 2000. It was part of the Poole yard's 1990s Predator range of enclosed high-performance cruisers, alongside larger siblings such as the Predator 63 and Predator 80.

The Predator 58 was built by Sunseeker International between 1996 and 2000, one of several sizes in the yard's Predator range of enclosed, high-performance sportscruisers that also included the Predator 63 and the flagship Predator 80. Sunseeker's deep-V performance hulls of this era were developed in a long-running design partnership with British powerboat designer Don Shead, whose race-derived hull work became a Sunseeker trademark through the 1980s and 1990s and continued into the yard's core production range into the mid-2000s; no source consulted for this entry names Don Shead, or anyone else, specifically as the Predator 58's designer, so no individual is credited here. The hull and superstructure are GRP. Length overall is 17.65 m, beam 4.59 m, and draught at full load 1.35 m.

The boat accommodates up to six guests across three cabins, in keeping with the layout convention of Sunseeker's mid-size Predators of the period: a main-deck saloon and cockpit above, with sleeping cabins on the lower deck. Fuel capacity is 3,000 litres and fresh water capacity a generous 1,200 litres, both large for a boat of this length, consistent with the extended-range cruising brief typical of Sunseeker's 1990s Predator range.

Records for individually surveyed examples show a mix of engine fits for the Predator 58 - some quoting twin Caterpillar 3208 TA diesels around 700 hp combined, others twin MAN diesels - which likely reflects buyer-specified options across the model's four-year run rather than a single documented factory catalogue, and no yard specification sheet or contemporary magazine test was found to confirm which packages Sunseeker itself offered as standard or optional. Engine options and power figures are therefore left unstated here rather than guessed from second-hand brokerage listings for individual boats.

No dedicated period sea trial of the Predator 58 was located among the sources checked (Motor Boat & Yachting, Power & Motoryacht, Boat International, YachtBuyer); coverage of the model today is limited to brokerage and used-boat-database listings.
