Nord West 430 Sportstop

In production 2011–2013 Designed by Benny Martinsson

The Nord West 430 SportsTop is a 44ft (13.5m) sports cruiser with an electrically opening fabric roof on a hard-top frame, built from 2011 to 2013 on the hull of the 420 Flybridge. It was Nord West's best-known late model, shortlisted for Motor Boat of the Year 2013, and also provided the hull for the 430 Flybridge.

The SportsTop and the open 430 Sport were announced as projects in November 2009 and launched together at the Gothenburg boat show in February 2011. Nord West's international debut for the SportsTop was the Southampton Boat Show that September, with a boat on the new D6 400hp sterndrives and joystick control. The two share Benny Martinsson's 'series four' hull from the 420 Flybridge, and in 2013 the same hull was used for the 430 Flybridge. Nord West's 2012 production list gives 2011-2013 and 'over thirty' built across the 430 models. Building stopped when the yard went into administration in February 2013.

The top is the defining feature. An electrically operated roof in double canopy fabric opens at the touch of a button. Nord West said the opening was much larger than on the 370 SportsTop, so the cockpit feels close to the open Sport. The cockpit and the three lower-deck layouts are otherwise as on the Sport: two en-suite double cabins as standard, three cabins with a single third cabin and two heads, or three doubles with one bathroom.

Standard power was twin Volvo Penta D6 370hp on sterndrives. The options were the D6 400hp sterndrive, IPS 500, or twin 435hp on IPS 600, and IPS boats could have DPS dynamic positioning and up to four joysticks. The SportsTop was shortlisted for Motor Boat of the Year 2013 in the powerboat-up-to-45ft class after MBY tested the 430 in its December 2012 issue. Praktiskt Båtägande also tested it, in 2012.
