Princess V42

In production 2009–2015

The third-generation Princess V42 (2009-2015) is a 44ft (13.56m incl. pulpit) open sportscruiser with two en-suite cabins, a push-button sliding roof and twin Volvo Penta D6 diesels on sterndrives. It was a longer and wider boat than the earlier V42s, and Motor Boat & Yachting praised its handling and cockpit.

The V42 ran through three generations. The first (1999-2006, 13.15m, 3.75m beam, about 8.5 tonnes) had twin Volvo KAD300, KAD44 or KAD43 diesels on Duoprop sterndrives. The Mk II (2006-2008) kept a similar size (3.73m beam, about 7.6 tonnes) and moved to Volvo D6 diesels from 310 to 370hp. The Mk III, launched in 2009, is a new boat: 13.56m long and 3.99m wide, with a second en-suite heads for the guest cabin and a choice of hardtop or fully open versions.

The cockpit is in two parts, with seating around the helm and a U-shaped dinette aft, under a push-button sliding roof. Below are a forward master cabin with a double and a midships twin cabin, each with its own heads. Motor Boat & Yachting noted restricted headroom in the midships cabin.

Princess stayed with sterndrives, offering twin Volvo Penta D6-330, D6-370 and D6-400 diesels on Duoprop drives. Motor Boat & Yachting tested D6-370s in 2009, reached 37 knots and recommended the biggest engine package available at the time.
