Grandezza 28 OC

In production 2017–present

The Grandezza 28 OC is the hardtop version of Grandezza's 8.78 metre sterndrive cruiser, designed and built in Kokkola, Finland, and current in the 2026 range. A fixed roof with a three-part sliding sunroof covers the helm and the cockpit, over the same hull and lower deck as the open-top 28 DC. It is rated for eight people, four berths plus two, a 265 litre fuel tank, 80 litres of water and CE category C, with a separate toilet compartment with a shower. Volvo Penta and Mercury sterndrive packages from 270 to 350 hp are offered, with 39 knots quoted on the Volvo Penta D4-300. It succeeded the shorter 8.30 metre 27 OC.

The 28 OC is Grandezza's social hardtop cruiser: 8.78 metres by 2.85, 3100 kilograms, CE category C, with a fixed roof over the helm and cockpit and a three-part sliding sunroof that opens the whole thing up. The cockpit is fitted out as a saloon and a galley — two sofas, a navigator's seat beside a double-wide command seat, a cockpit table, an integrated sunbed, a covered sink with a worktop extension, a Wallas ceramic hob and a 50 litre fridge. Half a level down are two double berths with fill-in cushions to the forward one, a sofa and seat, a wardrobe, two ventilated hull portholes and a foredeck hatch, and a separate bathroom with a sea-water WC with electric flush, a shower, a vanity unit and a 22 litre hot water system. Optional side windows with an opening mechanism and air conditioning push it further towards year-round use than the 28 DC.

Grandezza publishes one specification column for the 28 OC and the 28 DC because they are the same platform: 8.78 metres, 2.85 metre beam, 0.55 metres draft with the drive raised and 1.10 metres with it lowered, 3100 kilograms, eight persons, four berths plus two, 265 litres of fuel, 80 litres of water, a 50 litre holding tank and about 1.2 litres per nautical mile at cruise.

The 28 OC replaced the 27 OC rather than renaming it. The 27 is a distinctly smaller boat — 8.30 metres, 3000 kilograms, 1.00 metre drive-down draft, a 74 litre water tank — and its engine list was built around Volvo's DPH Duoprop drive and MerCruiser 6.2 litre petrols. The 28 moved to Volvo's DPI drive and to Mercury's Bravo Three X diesel package, so the two generations' figures are kept apart here and should not be merged.

Current engine options are a single sterndrive in every case: Volvo Penta D4-270 and D4-300 diesels on DPI, a Volvo Penta V8-300 petrol, a MerCruiser 6.2 litre 350 SeaCore DTS on Bravo Three, and a Mercury Diesel 3.0-270 DTS on Bravo Three X. Maximum speed is 39 knots with the D4-300 and cruising 20 to 31 knots. One caveat on the numbers: the draft used here is the drive-lowered figure, and Grandezza publishes neither an air draft nor a cabin count for the boat, so both are omitted.
