Grandezza 23 S

In production Unknown

The Grandezza 23 S was the sport day cruiser at the bottom of the Grandezza range and the direct predecessor of the current 25 S. Built by Finn-Marin Oy in Kokkola, it was in production from the brand's early years for close to a decade before being replaced in 2017. It is quoted at 6.96 m with a drive-down draft of 1.00 m, seats six, and reaches around 35.5 knots. Like all Grandezza models of the period it uses an inboard diesel on a sterndrive leg rather than an outboard. Kippari ran long-term tests of the boat in 2013 and again in 2014.

The 23 S occupied the entry point of the Grandezza range for most of the brand's first decade. It is a sport day cruiser — the S suffix denotes the open, performance-flavoured configuration rather than the hardtop OC or the cabin CA — with a closed foredeck cabin, an open cockpit and the engine hidden beneath a sundeck aft. Grandezza's own positioning was as the more luxurious sister brand to Finn-Marin's mainstream Finnmaster boats, and the 23 S carried that with a higher standard of trim than its size class usually justified.

In its retrospective on the replacement 25 S, Kippari noted that the 23 S had been in production since the brand's early years and had run for almost ten years before age caught up with it, which places its life roughly from the late 2000s to 2016 or 2017. The 25 S that replaced it in 2017 grew to 7.53 m and rethought the forward cabin substantially, using large hull windows and an offset berth to make the space habitable rather than merely a place to sleep — a direct commentary on what the 23 S had been.

Mechanically the boat follows the Grandezza convention of the era. Kippari records the brand's explicit position that outboards do not belong in the Grandezza philosophy, and the smaller models were accordingly built around inboard diesels driving through sterndrive legs, in practice the Volvo Penta D3 family that powered the contemporary 23 DC and 23 OC. Databases quote a maximum speed of about 35.5 knots and a capacity of six persons.

Two boats in the selling dealer's own records, both 2013, carry a MerCruiser 4.3 MPI of 220 hp, which is the only engine evidence for the model and is recorded here. This remains the thinnest-sourced model in the Grandezza back catalogue. Beam, weight, fuel and water capacity, berth and cabin counts, CE category and the manufacturer's maximum power rating could not be obtained from any source reachable during research, and are omitted rather than inferred from the dimensionally similar 23 DC and 23 OC. Anyone relying on this record should treat it as a stub pending a period brochure.
