Grandezza 40 CA

In production 2015–2021 Designed by Idis Design (concept, layout and styling)

The Grandezza 40 CA was the Kokkola yard's hardtop flagship from its Dusseldorf launch in January 2015 until the model was withdrawn around 2021. At 12.30 m by 3.95 m and 9,000 kg it replaced the 39 CA, gaining length through a larger integrated swim platform along with bigger hull windows and more stowage. The deck saloon opens through a wide triple sliding glass door into the aft cockpit, with a full-beam master cabin, a forward cabin and one bathroom below, giving five berths plus two for up to twelve persons. All three engine options are twin Volvo Penta sterndrives on DPH duoprop drives, up to twin D6-370s for a quoted 40 knots. Concept, layout and styling were by Idis Design.

The 40 CA was Grandezza's large hardtop cruiser and, for most of its life, the yard's flagship alongside the flybridge 40 FLY with which it shares its hull. Announced in late 2014 and launched at the Dusseldorf Boat Show in January 2015, it replaced the 39 CA and grew to 12.30 m largely through a bigger integrated swim platform, while also picking up larger hull windows and extra stowage. The concept, layout, sketching, 3D modelling and colour and trim work were done by the Finnish studio Idis Design for Finnmaster Boats, Grandezza's parent.

The main deck is arranged as a deck saloon with the helm forward, separate command seats for pilot and co-pilot, a lockable sliding door on the driver's side for direct deck access, and a U-shaped dinette. A wide triple sliding glass door opens the saloon into the L-shaped aft cockpit seating. Below there are two cabins: a master with a double bed, a divan usable as an extra berth and large panorama windows, and a forward cabin with scissors berths that convert between a double and two singles. A single bathroom has a separate shower enclosure and an electric flush toilet. The galley is on the lower level with a diesel cooker, a multifunction oven and a 140-litre fridge as standard.

Construction is a vacuum-injected glassfibre hull in a light, rigid full sandwich laminate. Tankage is 920 litres of fuel, 273 litres of water and 177 litres of holding. The engine range is entirely twin Volvo Penta sterndrive on DPH duoprop drives: D4-225, D4-300 or D6-370, each available with or without joystick docking and all with EVC-EC electronic controls. A 6 kW bow thruster, automatic trim tabs and hydraulic steering are standard. With the twin D6-370 package the yard quotes 40 knots maximum against a 22 to 29 knot cruising range and about 3.1 litres per nautical mile.

The most important caveat concerns draft. Grandezza publishes it as 0.80/1.50 m; the 1.50 m figure recorded here is the drive-down value, and the 0.80 m hull-only number is what Nordic listing databases quote, which understates the boat's real water requirement by more than half a metre. Air draft was never published and is omitted rather than estimated. The end-of-production year is also an editorial call: aggregator databases say 2020, but Grandezza's own fact sheet for the model is dated October 2020, which is a model-year 2021 document, so 2021 is used here. Finally, do not merge this record with the 40 FLY — they share hull, tankage, draft and engine range, but the flybridge boat is 500 kg heavier and 5 knots slower, and they are separate models.
