TAMD74
The Volvo Penta TAMD74 is a turbocharged, aftercooled 7.28-litre in-line six marine diesel of up to 480 hp, the largest and last of the classic TAMD inboards before the D9 and D12 range replaced them.
A six-cylinder direct-injected diesel with turbocharger and aftercooler on a larger 7.28-litre block - bore 107 mm, stroke 135 mm - than the 6.7-litre TAMD71/72/73, rated 353 kW (480 hp) at 2600 rpm in the TAMD74P EDC and sold from about 1998 to 2005 in C, L and P forms with electronic diesel control and electrically shifted reverse gears. It is a shaft inboard: the MG or ZF gearbox and shaft package decide propulsion. In Nordic ads it is the big-boat engine of the early 2000s, usually in pairs in 45-60 foot flybridge cruisers and motor yachts from Fairline, Princess, Storebro and Nimbus. Buyers should note that it is a high-output engine near the end of a mechanical-injection lineage with EDC layered on top, so a documented service history, aftercooler condition and working EDC diagnostics matter more than hours alone.
