Volvo Penta Marinmotor

KAMD43

I produktion 1997–2005

The Volvo Penta KAMD43 is a 230 hp, 3.6-litre six-cylinder marine diesel that is both mechanically supercharged and turbocharged, supplied as a shaft inboard with a Volvo Penta reverse gear.

KAMD43 is the shaft-inboard member of Volvo Penta's compressor-charged 40-series: a 3.6-litre, six-cylinder, direct-injected diesel carrying both a mechanically driven charge-air compressor for low-rpm boost and an exhaust turbocharger for the top end, plus an aftercooler, matched to an HS45A, HS63A or HS63V reverse gear. The compressor is what gives these engines their signature off-idle punch and is also their signature maintenance item. Sold as KAMD43A and KAMD43P from 1997 and superseded by the common-rail D6 in the mid 2000s, it is the high-output pre-common-rail Volvo six found under larger Nordic cabin boats and small flybridges with conventional shafts.
