D2-75
The Volvo Penta D2-75 is a 2.2-litre turbocharged, aftercooled four-cylinder marine diesel rated at 75 hp (55 kW) crankshaft power. It is the top rating of the D2 range and a common auxiliary in larger cruising sailboats and small motor cruisers.
The D2-75 is the turbocharged and aftercooled version of Volvo Penta's 2.2-litre four-cylinder D2 block - mechanically the same engine as the naturally aspirated D2-55, differing in the turbocharger, the exhaust elbow and the fuel rack stop, at a modest boost of around 10 psi. It develops roughly a third more power and considerably more low-end torque than the D2-55 in the same footprint and at only a few per cent more weight, because the turbo is mounted above the gearbox. Rated across a 2700-3000 rpm band, it is the usual auxiliary in 42-50 ft cruising sailboats and turns up as main propulsion in small displacement motor cruisers. Shaft installations use the HS25A hydraulic or MS25 mechanical reverse gear; saildrive boats use the 150S leg. Letter revisions run through the emissions steps and are treated here as one engine.
