Volvo Penta Marinmotor

TAMD41

I produktion 1989–2005

The Volvo Penta TAMD41 is a 3.6-litre six-cylinder turbocharged and aftercooled marine diesel of up to 200 hp, the shaft-inboard workhorse of the 40-series and one of the most common older Volvo sixes in Nordic boats.

TAMD41 is the turbocharged, aftercooled six-cylinder of Volvo Penta's 40-series - a 3.6-litre direct-injection diesel on a seven-bearing cast-iron block, sold as a shaft inboard with an HS45A, HS63A or HS63V reverse gear. Letter revisions run from TAMD41A and B in the late 1980s through the final H, M and P ratings sold into the mid 2000s, spanning 146 hp at 2600 rpm (the low-rated 41H) to 200 hp at 3800 rpm (41P) on the same hardware. It is the pre-electronic Volvo six that turns up under a very large share of 1990s Nordic flybridges, trawlers and larger cabin boats, and it is well liked precisely because there is nothing electronic to fail - the injection pump is mechanical and the maintenance story is heat exchangers, impellers and the exhaust elbow.
