TAMD63

I produktion 1994–2005

The Volvo Penta TAMD63 is a turbocharged, aftercooled 5.46-litre in-line six marine diesel rated from 235 to 370 hp, the best-known of the 60-series inboards in fast planing and semi-planing cruisers.

A six-cylinder, direct-injected diesel with a freshwater-cooled turbocharger, seawater-cooled tubular aftercooler, replaceable wet cylinder liners and oil-cooled forged pistons, built from 1994 into the mid-2000s. It was sold in two output grades: the TAMD63L at 235-318 hp depending on duty rating, and the wastegated TAMD63P at 370 hp (272 kW) at 2800 rpm, and normally paired with a ZF 220A or MG 5061A reverse gear. It is a shaft inboard - the gearbox and shaft package decide propulsion, not the engine. In Nordic ads it is the workhorse of 1990s and early-2000s flybridge cruisers and larger fast motorboats, frequently in pairs. Its reputation is good: fully mechanical, robust, and still supported, though the aftercooler, the exhaust elbow and the injection pump are the expensive items and hours matter more here than on an auxiliary.
