The Volvo Penta D8-IPS650 is an IPS pod-drive package built on a 509 hp rating of the 7.7-litre six-cylinder D8 with twin-entry turbo and supercharger.
The D8-IPS650 pairs a 374 kW (509 hp) Rating 4 tune of Volvo Penta's 7.7-litre in-line six D8 with the IPS forward-facing pod drive and its twin counter-rotating propellers. The 650 is a performance-equivalence number, not the crankshaft rating — the D6-IPS650 wears the same number on a 480 hp 5.5-litre engine. Introduced around 2018 with the rest of the D8-IPS ladder, it is sold in twin and triple installations for planing hulls in the 20 to 40 knot band.
