Flipper 600 SC

The 600 SC is the centre-console member of the Flipper 600 series, a family of three boats built on a common 6.05 m glass-fibre hull with a beam of 2.22 m. Venemestari's 2014 test attributes the design to the Norwegian designer Espen Thorup and describes the hull as a relatively deep V with narrow chines and pronounced lifting strakes. Flipper's later model pages refer to the hull under the brand's "Speedhull" name and describe a vacuum-infused double-frame construction.

The layout places a large steering console amidships, with offshore-type seats for the helm, a straight bench across the stern and a seat group in the bow that converts into a sunbed. There are no berths. Standard equipment in 2014 included hydraulic steering, a 130-litre fixed fuel tank, a self-draining cockpit and a flush-mounted position for a 7-inch chartplotter; a folding canopy, trim tabs and a teak-laminate cockpit floor were options. Kippari's 2015 group test judged the boat to be at the lower size limit for a centre-console layout, noting that the deck space around the console is of limited practical use.

Flipper listed the boat with Mercury four-stroke outboards of 80, 100, 115 and 150 hp, the rated power range being 80–150 hp. Tested by Venemestari with a Mercury F150 L EFI, the boat reached 44.6 knots at 5,500 rpm, with consumption of about 0.75–0.85 litres per nautical mile at 20–30 knots; the test noted that it planes smoothly with little bow rise.

The 600 SC was new in the 2014 range and was nominated in the Best for Fun category of the Best of Boats Award 2014. It remained on Flipper's model pages after the 600 DC was withdrawn, appearing there in June 2021 with an engine list that by then also included the Mercury F115 Pro XS, and was no longer listed in 2022.

The 600 series was the last part of the Espen Thorup-designed Flipper range to be launched, following the 880, 670 and 640 models. In the 2014 range the 600 SC sat below the 6.25 m 640 SC as the smallest of Flipper's two sport console boats.
