D4-225
The Volvo Penta D4-225 is a 3.7-litre inline four-cylinder marine diesel rated at 225 hp (165 kW) crankshaft power at 3500 rpm. It replaced the D4-210 as the mid rating of the first-generation D4 range and ran until the 2021 D4 refresh.
The D4-225 took over from the D4-210 around 2005 as the D4 range's mid rating, using the same cast-iron block, common-rail injection, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, turbocharger and aftercooler, with EVC electronic vessel control and electrically shifted reverse gears. It was one of the D4 ratings offered in both forms: inboard with a hydraulically shifted reverse gear (HS45AE, HS63AE, HS63IVE, ZF63, plus V-drive options) and as an Aquamatic sterndrive package. It was a common choice in Nordic hardtop and cabin cruisers of the period. The 2021 D4 refresh replaced it with the D4-230.
