Volvo Penta Venemoottori

D2-55

Tuotannossa 2004–2017

The Volvo Penta D2-55 is a 2.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder marine diesel rated at 55 hp (41 kW) crankshaft power. Produced from the mid-2000s until it was withdrawn on emissions grounds around 2017, it is very common in used 35-42 ft cruising sailboats.

The D2-55 was for a decade the standard mid-size Volvo Penta sailboat auxiliary and is the engine most often found in Nordic brokerage listings of 35-42 ft cruisers from that period. It is a freshwater-cooled, naturally aspirated four-cylinder of 2.2 litres (84 x 100 mm) with a cam-driven in-line injection pump, glow plugs and a 115 A alternator, rated across a 2700-3000 rpm band. Shaft installations use the HS25A hydraulic or MS25A/MS25L mechanical reverse gear; saildrive boats use the 130S/SR leg. The turbocharged, aftercooled D2-75 is the same base engine with a turbo, a different exhaust elbow and a different fuel rack stop. The D2-55 was discontinued when it stopped meeting Recreational Craft Directive emissions limits, replaced by the D2-50 in 2017. Letter revisions (A through E) are certification and detail steps and are treated here as one engine.
