Sargo 36
The Sargo 36 is a Finnish all-weather pilothouse walkaround motorboat built in GRP by Sarins Båtar in Kokkola, launched in 2012 as the Minor Offshore 36 and renamed Sargo 36 when the yard rebranded on 9 June 2014. It is a twin-sterndrive diesel cruiser of 11.80 m with two cabins — a three-cabin layout is also offered — a single-level walkaround deck and a fully enclosed wheelhouse with two side doors. It is aimed at year-round Nordic cruising, and is also used by police and other authorities.
The hull was introduced in 2012 as the Minor Offshore 36, the largest model of the Minor Offshore series, and won the Best Wheelhouse and Walkaround category at the Motorboat Awards. On 9 June 2014 Sarins Båtar launched the SARGO brand and the Minor Offshore 25–36 range changed name, so the Minor Offshore 36 became the Sargo 36 without a change of hull. Sargo's own timeline separately lists a 'New SARGO 36 is presented' entry, but its UK site describes that same event as a remodel rather than a new boat: 'the ever popular Sargo 36 undergoes a remodel ready for 2020. Offering enhanced storage, even greater space at the helm station and redesigned looks the new Sargo 36 was launched to customers August 2020.' Length and draft are unchanged from the 2012 boat, and Sargo hosts the 2012 Minor Offshore 36 magazine tests on the current Sargo 36 model page — so the current boat is a facelifted continuation of the 2012 design, not a new generation.
Accommodation is two cabins: a forward cabin with a 140 x 200 cm double, and a middle cabin with a 120 x 200 cm double plus a 70 x 200 cm single that an infill combines into one 220 x 200 cm bed, giving five berths. A toilet and shower room with a separate shower is standard forward, and a second head with toilet and sink in the midcabin is an option. The wheelhouse has two lockable side doors, an aft door and opening rear window, a large L-sofa, a galley with sink, 80 l refrigerator and a three-burner gas hob and oven, and a large sliding sunroof. The hull is vacuum-infused and hand-laminated fibreglass, divided into two watertight sections with separate bilge pumps. The 36 and 36 Fly are also offered in a three-cabin layout.
The boat is sold in three forms: the base Sargo 36; the Sargo 36 Fly, whose flybridge seats five and uses a CAD-designed wind tunnel to minimise draught; and the Sargo 36 Explorer, which shares the dimensions but is distinguished by its anthracite hull, black hardware and grey non-skid deck. Dry weight with twin engines is 8400 kg for the 36 and Explorer and 8800 kg for the Fly.
Engines are all twin Volvo Penta diesel sterndrives with hydraulic drives and electric steering: 2 x D4-270, 2 x D4-320, 2 x D6-340, 2 x D6-380 and 2 x D6-440, and every 36 is delivered with a Volvo Penta Certified Installation. In its 2012 Minor Offshore form, Vi Menn Båt recorded 40 knots top speed and about 30 knots cruise with twin Volvo Penta D6-370s, praising the tough design, build quality and ride while criticising the awkward companionway to the aft cabin. BOOTE tested the current boat in 2025 with twin D6-340s. Reception is consistently positive on seaworthiness, all-weather usability and finish, with price the most common criticism.
