Sargo 28

In production 2021–present

The Sargo 28 is a Finnish GRP wheelhouse walkaround motorboat from Sarins Båtar, sold in Cabin, Explorer and Outboard forms. It is an all-season family cruiser with two separate double cabins, an insulated wheelhouse with two side doors and a heated interior, built for long seasons in cold, exposed water. The current boat is a second-generation design presented in 2021 on an entirely new hull; it replaced the first Sargo 28, which was the 2010 Minor Offshore 28 rebadged after the 2014 brand change.

Sarins Båtar launched the Minor Offshore 28 in 2010. On 9 June 2014 the yard replaced the Minor name with the SARGO brand and, per its own history page, the whole Minor Offshore 25–36 range 'changes brand to SARGO' — so from 2014 the same boat sold as the Sargo 28, with no change of hull.

The 2021 boat is a different thing: an entirely new hull, 0.42 m longer, with fuel capacity raised from 375 to 500 litres, a slightly wider beam, transom deadrise increased from 19 to 19.5 degrees, and softened chines and revised spray rails. Powerboat & RIB put it plainly — the first Sargo 28 kept the Minor Offshore's hull lines with only minor chine and spray-rail changes, whereas the 2021 boat is a fundamentally new hull. This page describes that current boat; the earlier one is its ancestor rather than the same model.

The layout puts a 200 x 200 cm double in the forward cabin and a 160 x 200 cm double in the middle cabin, for 2 + 2 berths in two separate cabins, with one head with a manual toilet and sink between them. The wheelhouse has two lockable side doors, a U-sofa with table, a turnable passenger chair, sliding offshore helm chairs, a galley with a stainless sink and a single Wallas diesel hob, and a 1 x 1.2 m sliding sunroof. Hull and cabins are insulated, and the boat is hand-laminated fibreglass with 30 mm marine-grade stainless rails.

The Sargo 28 and 28 Explorer are single-engine Volvo Penta sterndrive boats — D4-270, D4-320, D6-340, D6-380 or D6-400, all on DPI drives — for a quoted 30–39 knots. The Sargo 28 Outboard instead carries twin outboards of 250 or 300 hp for 40–42 knots; BOOTE's test boat ran twin Mercury V8 300s and recorded 44.2 knots. Powerboat & RIB (Greg Copp, 2022) found the new hull ran smoother, drier and better balanced than the Minor-derived original. Of the earlier boat, MBY's Nick Burnham (2013) called the Minor Offshore 28 a solid all-weather performer, useable, practical and sturdy but with slightly limited accommodation, while Passagemaker's 2015 test of the rebadged first-generation Sargo 28 praised its quiet, well-mannered ride.
