Nord Star 42+

In production 2021–present

The Nord Star 42+ is the second-largest model in Finnish builder Nord Star's (Linex-Boat Oy) current '+' generation, launched in 2021 as successor to the 42 Patrol. It is a full walk-around, hardtop pilothouse motorboat built in GRP, roughly 13.4 m long with a 3.85 m beam and a deep-V hull rated CE category B. Twin Volvo Penta D6 diesels on sterndrive or IPS pod drives give a top speed around 40–42 knots. It sleeps a family in two-to-three cabins and is marketed as a serious offshore day- and weekend cruiser.

The Nord Star 42+ is a large flagship-class pilothouse cruiser from Nord Star, the boatbuilding brand of Linex-Boat Oy in Kokkola, Finland. It sits near the top of the current '+' range (below the 49+) and replaced the earlier 42 Patrol when the '+' generation was introduced in 2021. The boat follows the Nord Star formula of a fully enclosed, heated wheelhouse combined with genuine walk-around side decks, making it usable year-round in Nordic conditions while still working as a fast offshore cruiser.

According to Nord Star's published specification the 42+ is 13.4 m (42'6") long overall with a 3.85 m beam, an 18.5-degree deadrise deep-V hull, a dry weight of about 10,000 kg and a maximum rated propulsion power of 890 kW. Manufacturer figures quote a top speed of 42 knots. Tanks are offered in two packages: a standard set (2 x 430 L fuel, 195 L holding) and a Cruiser set (2 x 500 L fuel, 275 L holding), with a 230 L fresh-water tank. The interior is a two-cabin layout (an optional third cabin is available) with a convertible pilothouse berth, and the galley can be specified up or down.

Propulsion is by twin Volvo Penta D6 diesels, offered on Aquamatic sterndrives (D6-380, D6-400, D6-440) or as Volvo Penta IPS pod drives (up to the D8-based IPS800), with a Yanmar 8LV370 also listed; both Volvo drive types can be fitted with joystick control and Dynamic Positioning. Test boats reported by Motor Boat & Yachting and YachtBuyer ran twin D6-440s on sterndrives, achieving roughly 38–42 knots with a comfortable mid-20s cruise. Reviewers highlight the boat's manageable handling for a couple, walk-around deck safety and a clever concealed amidships cabin. The 42+ is CE design category B (offshore). It is also offered as the 42+ Fly, a flybridge variant that replaces the hardtop and sunroof with an upper helm station and a flybridge lounge — an L-shaped sofa, an ergonomic helm seat and a wet bar with sink, fridge and grill — on the same hull, tankage and engine range as the standard boat.
