Nimbus

Nimbus Boats is a Swedish builder of premium motorboats, founded in 1968 in the Langedrag district of Gothenburg, where its head office remains. Its first model, the aft-cabin Nimbus 26 of 1969, was designed by the Olympic sailor and industrial designer Pelle Petterson and won European recognition in 1970, establishing the brand as a maker of comfortable, seaworthy family cruisers. Over the following decades Nimbus grew into a premium Scandinavian marque, its hulls built in glass-reinforced plastic and its ranges styled by Petterson and by Rolf Eliasson. After the 2008 financial crisis the company was declared bankrupt in 2012 and acquired by R12 Kapital AB, which remains the principal owner. Nimbus became the anchor brand of Nimbus Group AB, a Swedish house of powerboat brands that has since assembled a portfolio including Paragon Yachts, Falcon, the aluminium builder Alukin, the Finnish Bella-Veneet marques (Bella, Flipper and Aquador) and the US builder EdgeWater. Nimbus Group has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm's First North Growth Market under the ticker BOAT since February 2021. The classic Nimbus range - the Nova sterndrive cruisers, the Coupe sedans and the Commander pilothouse boats - has largely given way to a current lineup built around outboard-powered, walkaround-style day boats organised into Coupe, Weekender (W), Tender (T) and Commuter (C) series, several sharing an air-lubricated stepped hull that lets everyone aboard face forward at speed. Nimbus has also developed an electric version of the 305 Coupe using BMW battery technology, reported as a development step toward zero-emission cruising rather than a confirmed series model. The marque sells at the premium end through dealers across Sweden, Finland, Norway, the UK, Poland and the USA.
