Azimut 50

The Azimut 50 is a three-cabin flybridge motor yacht of roughly 16 metres, built in Avigliana and Savona by Azimut-Benetti and sold within the yard's Flybridge Collection, where for most of its production run it was the entry-level model beneath the 55 and 60.

The 50 badge has been worn by three separate boats. A first generation ran from the early 2000s to about 2010, a hull of similar length but narrower beam, usually delivered with Caterpillar C12 engines of around 660 hp. A second generation appeared in 2013 and was shown at Cannes in 2014, measuring 15.88 m with a galley on the lower deck and twin Volvo Penta D11-670 shaft engines. A third generation followed after a revision presented in autumn 2017 and remained in build until about 2024; it grew to 16.08 m and moved the galley up onto the main deck. This page describes that third boat, because the length, beam, displacement and fuel figures recorded against the model match it rather than either predecessor.

The lower deck carries a full-beam master amidships with its own head and shower, a double cabin forward, and a third cabin with bunks. Azimut's own data lists three cabins with six berths and two heads for guests, plus a crew cabin aft with a single berth and its own small head, reached from the cockpit; magazine tests describe that crew space as cramped. The two forward guest cabins share a head that also serves as the day head, with a second door onto the corridor. On the main deck the saloon runs into a lower helm to starboard, with the galley alongside it after the 2017 change. The flybridge measures a little over 18 square metres and carries the upper helm, a dinette, a wet bar and a sunpad.

Hulls are laminated by resin infusion. Azimut publishes both hull and superstructure as GRP, and one magazine test reports a substantial carbon-fibre content in the lay-up; carbon in the superstructure is documented on larger and later Fly models, so the claim should be treated as unconfirmed for this one. Drive is by conventional shafts throughout, through ZF gearboxes and four-blade propellers; no pod or IPS option was offered. Engines were twin Volvo Penta D11s, first at 670 hp each and then at 725 hp each after the facelift, with twin Caterpillar C8.7s of 650 hp reported on late hulls. Top speed is quoted at about 32 knots, with a fast cruise in the low-to-mid twenties.

The boat suits an owner-operator who wants three cabins and a large flybridge in a length still manageable without permanent crew, while the aft cabin allows a single crew member when wanted. European spec sources give CE category B; a secondary claim of category A appears online but could not be traced to Azimut, and has not been adopted here.
