Finngulf 46 Special

The Finngulf 46 was the flagship of the Stråhlmann range. The owners' club dates it from 2003, and one boat built that year with an epoxy hull and carbon mast is on the market, but the production boat was presented in 2007-2008: Cruising World previewed it in September 2007 and reviewed it for Boat of the Year in 2008, and the factory specification sheets are dated February 2008. Production ended with the yard's bankruptcy in 2011. No factory source uses the name "46 Special"; it appears only as a broker's listing title.

The 2010 specification gives 14.00 m length, 12.10 m waterline, 4.17 m beam, 2.55 m draft (2.20 m shallow keel), 9,500 kg displacement in racing trim (10,200 kg cruising) and 3,800 kg of ballast in a lead bulb. The hull is hand-laminated GRP sandwich with a 20 mm foam core, available in infused epoxy or vinylester, and was certified to CE category A by VTT. The fractional rig carries a 61.6 m2 mainsail and a 43.4 m2 foretriangle. Below are a forecabin, two aft cabins and two heads, with interiors in teak, mahogany, cherry or white oak. Tanks are 240 l of fuel and 220 + 80 l of water, and the engine is a 55 hp diesel on a saildrive, recorded by sailboatdata as a Volvo Penta D2-55.

Cruising World's Steve Callahan noted its long waterline, narrow entry and glued and through-bolted hull-deck joint, with tacking angles of 95-100 degrees and 7.5-8.5 knots under power. The yard cited results in several ARC rallies.
