MerCruiser Marine engine

8.2L 380

The MerCruiser 8.2L 380 is the 380 hp MAG rating of the current 8.2-litre (502 cid) petrol big-block V8, Mercury's volume big-block sterndrive.

The 8.2L 380 is the standard rating of the current 502 cu in (8.2 L) petrol V8 — still a GM-based big-block marinisation, unlike the in-house 4.5L and 6.2L. Mercury introduced this 8.2 MAG family at IBEX 2009 to replace the 8.1-litre 496 MAG. It is not the older pre-496 8.2 MAG of the 1990s–2000s. Brochure WOT for both MAG and MAG H.O. is 4600–5000 rpm.

The 380 hp designation is the sterndrive MAG (Bravo One X/XR, Two X, Three X/XR — not Alpha) and is also the lower T8200 TowSport inboard rating. The Horizon inboard of this block is a different number, 375 hp; do not treat 380 and 375 as one rating. Bravo Four S pairs with the 8.2L and is still a sterndrive.
