Finngulf 37
The Finngulf 37 (2004-2011) is an 11.25 m fractional-rigged performance cruiser by Karl-Johan Stråhlmann, CE category A, with a bulb keel and a Selden rig. An earlier Södergren-designed Finngulf 37/38 was built from 1987 to 1995.
The name covers two boats. Håkan Södergren's 37 (also listed as the 38 and built as the Inferno 37) was an 11.30 m fast cruiser of 1987-1995, 23 boats. The Finngulf 37 described here is Karl-Johan Stråhlmann's design, new for 2004 and built until the yard closed in 2011.
The factory specification gives 11.25 m length, 10 m waterline, 3.5 m beam, 2.0 m draft (1.75 m shallow keel), 6,000 kg displacement and a 2,250 kg keel (2,480 kg for the shallow version). The Selden 19/20 fractional rig carries a 40.9 m2 mainsail and a 44 m2 genoa. Construction uses chainplates tied to glass keel beams, bulkheads laminated on both sides and a glued and through-bolted deck; the interior is teak. Tanks are 135 l of fuel, 140 + 90 l of water and 75 l holding. It is certified to CE category A. Layouts with one or two aft cabins were offered.
The brochure engine is a 29 hp Volvo Penta D1-30 on a saildrive; the 2004 website listed the MD2030, and the boat Vene tested in 2010 had a Yanmar 3YM30C. Practical Sailor found it walked a fine line between racing and cruising, with a fine entry and tall rig, though it criticised the low lifelines and small anchor locker. Vene's 2010 comparison against the SwedeStar 370 found the two evenly matched.
