Finngulf 28e

In production 1998–2005 Designed by Karl-Johan Stråhlmann

The Finngulf 28e (1998-2005) is an 8.6 m fractional-rigged cruiser-racer designed by Karl-Johan Stråhlmann, the smallest boat of Finngulf's 2000s range. About 35 were built, the later ones by Saare Paat in Estonia.

The 28e was the first Finngulf drawn by Karl-Johan "Kamu" Stråhlmann, who went on to design the 33, 37, 41 and 46. The yard's own site called it simply the FG 28 and gives production as 1998 to 2005 with roughly 35 boats; by 2004 the 28 was being built for Finngulf by Saare Paat on Saaremaa, Estonia.

The hull is a beamy, short-ended GRP sandwich with a bulb fin keel and spade rudder; the factory brochure gives 8.62 m hull length, 7.70 m waterline, 2.91 m beam, 1.65 m draft and 3,750 kg displacement. The fractional rig carries a 23 m2 mainsail and a 19 m2 jib. Below there is a forepeak cabin and an aft cabin with a single heads compartment, and a teak interior. The brochure lists a Volvo Penta MD2010 on a saildrive, with 50 l of diesel and 100 l of water; boats with the 18 hp MD2020 were sold as an upgrade.

Robert Perry reviewed the design for SAILING in 2001 and liked the hull but criticised the boxed-in quarter berth and small wet locker. Vene's 2017 used-boat test found it able to carry full sail in over 10 m/s when others reefed, with a light, precise tiller, though the jib is blanketed off the wind.
