Volvo Penta Pod drive

IPS

Volvo Penta IPS is a steerable pod drive with forward-facing twin counter-rotating propellers working in undisturbed water, individually articulating pods and joystick docking.

Volvo Penta IPS (Inboard Performance System) mounts steerable pods in the hull bottom with forward-facing, counter-rotating propeller pairs that pull the boat like a turboprop rather than pushing it, working in clean water ahead of the pod. The pods articulate independently, enabling joystick docking and station keeping. IPS packages are designated by performance-equivalence numbers (IPS650, IPS800) built on D-series engines.
